100 jaar impact
De Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, een eeuw geleden gesticht door Rotterdamse handelslieden en havenbaronnen, is nauw verbonden met haar omgeving. Stad en omgeving vormen nog steeds de academische werkplaats voor de ontwikkeling, overdracht en toepassing van nieuwe kennis op het gebied van gezondheid en welvaart, bestuur en cultuur. In ons Rotterdamse DNA zit denken én doen, kennis die werkt, pragmatisch en maatschappelijk relevant. Kortom, kennis die impact heeft.
We zijn ook thuis in de wereld. De historie laat zien dat onze kennis - zeker onze oorspronkelijke disciplines zoals economie en geneeskunde - altijd grensoverschrijdend is geweest. Nog steeds trekt deze kennis studenten en onderzoekers uit de hele wereld aan. Dat zij tegelijk van kwalitatief hoogwaardig niveau is, getuige onze positie op internationale citatie- en publicatierankings. Maar ook getuige de bijdragen van onze wetenschappers aan de vraagstukken van vandaag, van Rotterdam tot ver over de landsgrenzen. En natuurlijk de impact van de kennis en vorming die onze afgestudeerden wereldwijd inzetten.
Onze drive naar maatschappelijke relevantie en wetenschappelijke excellentie is vertaald in het thema 100 jaar Impact. Op onze impact zijn we trots en dat willen we tijdens de viering van het eeuwfeest voor het voetlicht brengen. Impact als ambitie houdt een belofte in voor de toekomst.
100 years impact
Erasmus University Rotterdam, founded a century ago by Rotterdam merchants and businessmen, has close ties with its home city and surroundings. These remain the university’s testing ground for the development, transfer and application of new knowledge: in the field of health and prosperity, administration and culture. At Erasmus, thinking and doing is in our DNA, as is knowledge that works, knowledge that is pragmatic and socially relevant. In a nutshell, knowledge that has impact.
We are also at home in the world. History shows that our knowledge, certainly in our original disciplines like economics and medicine, have always been pioneering, attracting students and researchers from all over the world, then and now. And at the same time quality is high, as is borne witness by our position in international citation indexes and publication rankings, and as is also apparent from the contributions of our scientists to the issues of today, at home and abroad. And then, of course, there is the impact of our graduates' knowledge and education that is disseminated all over world.
Our drive to achieve social relevance and academic excellence is reflected in the theme 100 year Impact. We are proud of our impact and during the celebration of our centennial we want to bring this into the limelight. Impact as ambition holds a promise for the future.
